This is The New Normal folks, and it is some funny shit.

Let's talk for a minute about sitcoms.  I used to love comedy T.V. and as a young 20-something my friends and I would often all gather for Thursday night T.V. to watch Friends http://hoowstuffworks.blogspot.com/2009/12/friends-is-most-watched-show-of-last.html and Seinfeld

(I know this ages me, but I am old and trying really hard not to give a shit about that).  Thursday night T.V. has gone back and forth over the years.  Sometimes good (I love love love The Office
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Office_(U.S._TV_series) so much it borders on obsession, and 30 Rock is hilarious.  Alex Baldwin and Tina Fey,
http://www.justjared.com/2008/10/21/tina-fey-tv-guide-cover/  who woulda thunk it?  Such a funny duo), sometimes bad (I chose not to mention the bad shows, not because I am scared of the backlash from all three people who read this blog, but honestly, because I can't remember the titles.  I just know there were bad ones).
And lately, proves to us that they continue to own the (comedy) night.  There are some pretty funny shows out there people, and at least a couple of them have the ability to not only make you laugh but also to make you cry.  My newest favorite is "The New Normal".

I love that show for so. so many reasons.  I love it for the endearingly funny gay couple(played by Andrew Rennells and Justin Bartha)  who just want a baby, for the warm hearted surrogate mom (Georgia King)   and her weird little girl (Bebe Wood) .
The Nana character (Ellen Barkin)  is hilarious, in that same way that Jane Lynch Jane Lynch from Glee is hilarious.  She makes you want cringe all the while laughing at her disgusting views on life.  But you want to know the truth about why I started watching this show?  It was for NeNe Leakes. That statuesque beautiful giant from The Real Housewives of Atlanta.  I love me some NeNe.  I cannot help myself.  She is a little country black girl made good.  And honey, she is ghhhhetttoooo.  But I love her.  She is funny and doesn't hold back.  And Ms. NeNe is proving that she has a gift not only for talking trash but for scripted T.V.  Check out The New Normal.  I don't think you will be sorry.*
Thank-you Ryan Murphy. Ryan Murphy You are my new favorite.

*Unless you are a bigoted asshole who don't think gay people should get married, or have a baby.  Or if you are an asswipe racist who doesn't like people of color.  Actually, you would probably still like it for Nana.  So, go ahead and tune in, maybe you'll learn something.  Probably not, but maybe.
